M365 and Identity Monitoring

Most Microsoft 365 compromises start with a stolen identity, not malware. We watch sign-ins, mailbox changes and app permissions for the signs of account takeover, and respond when we see them.

What we watch

  • Sign-ins. Unfamiliar locations, impossible travel, repeated failures followed by a success and use of legacy authentication.
  • Mailbox changes. New inbox rules, forwarding and delegation, which threat actors use to hide fraud.
  • Application access. New app registrations and consent grants that can keep access alive after a password reset.
  • Authentication changes. New MFA methods, changed devices and unexpected resets.
  • Privileged activity. Changes to administrator roles, conditional access and tenant settings.

How it works

  1. Connect. A tenant administrator approves read access once, so we can see the audit and sign-in logs. We work across many Microsoft 365 tenants.
  2. Baseline. We review your configuration and learn what normal looks like for your users.
  3. Monitor and triage. Our analysts review alerts and decide what is real.
  4. Respond. When an account looks compromised we work with you to revoke sessions, reset credentials, remove rules and grants and check what the threat actor touched.
  5. Report. Regular summaries of activity, findings and recommended changes.

What you receive

  • Alerts that have been reviewed by a person before they reach you
  • Clear steps when an account needs to be locked down
  • Hardening recommendations such as conditional access, MFA coverage and app consent settings
  • Escalation into BEC and Microsoft 365 investigation when there is evidence of takeover

What we need from you

A tenant administrator to approve access, a list of who should have administrator roles and where staff normally sign in from, and a contact who can act quickly when an account must be locked. We agree in advance which containment steps we may take immediately and which need your sign-off.

Why it matters

Once a threat actor holds a valid session, ordinary security tools often see nothing wrong. Watching the identity layer is how takeovers are noticed early, before a rule is set, a payment is redirected or data is read.

Backed by investigation experience

Core-Infosec investigates Microsoft 365 and business email compromise. That is the reason we watch the specific activity described above: it is what we find when we reconstruct real takeovers. It also pairs with managed email security and with CMDR.

Who it fits

Any organization that runs on Microsoft 365, and especially those that handle payments, client funds or sensitive records by email.
